In November 2013, Semat, in a temporary association with the companies Somin and Bedeschi, was awarded the works for the construction of the structure to cover the slag storage area at the Ilva Taranto steel plant. The project, in addition to the construction of the structure itself, required the dismantling of the stackers and reclaimers which were to be replaced with new generation technologies.

The project involved the optimization of the spaces that would allow the steel plant to maintain the amount of slag stored (234,000 m3) in a smaller area than previously designated. Semat worked specifically on the construction of reinforced concrete foundations and above ground structures, in particular 6 bays for the slag - with a capacity of 39,000 m3 each - and the central wall with a truss support function for the roof structure, support for the reclaimer's sliding track, and separation of the stockpiles.
