The Nachtigal Hydropower Plant (420 MW) in Cameroon has been completed by ATB Riva Calzoni. The plant will generate 2.9 TWh per year, covering 30 percent of the country’s energy demand.
ATB Riva Calzoni has been selected as a subcontractor by the consortium BESIX, NGE-BTP, SGTM, and has successfully completed the supply and installation of the full package of hydromechanical equipment, which includes:
- seven steel penstocks (diameter 5.6 m)
- spillway radial gates and stoplogs (17 m x 10.7 m dimension)
- gates and stoplogs for the power intake
- draft tube stoplogs
Key characteristics of the project:
- Final client: Nachtigal Hydro Power Company (major shareholder: EDF)
- installed capacity: 420 MW
- expected annual generation: 2.9 TWh
- share of national energy demand covered: approximately 30 percent
A milestone for Cameroon’s sustainability
The Nachtigal plant is not only a large-scale infrastructure project but also a driver of sustainable growth. With nearly 3 TWh of clean energy produced each year, the plant will:
