In November 2014 excavations and the demolition of existing filters began in the sphere of the construction of the new secondary fume extraction plant for converters 1,2,3 of Steel Plant 1 at Ilva Taranto. After the removal of the excavation material, used for the soil analysis, Semat moved on to the construction of the support works for the silos and filters, thus preparing the layout for the future engineering. The next step was the arrangement of the adjacent area, functional for the installation of the piles to protect the existing foundation and that of the smokestack (a total of 104 micropiles at a depth of 8m and 20 piles at 30m).

Then the executive phase for the 25 meter high reinforced concrete walls of the chimney was begun, and completed with a structural steelwork ceiling with corrugated sheet and concrete casting.
