The Nachtigal Hydropower Plant (420 MW) in Cameroon has been completed by ATB Riva Calzoni and its partners. The plant will generate 2.9 TWh per year, covering 30 percent of the country’s energy demand.
Thanks to the collaboration between ATB Riva Calzoni, BESIX, NGE-BTP, SGTM, Nachtigal Hydro Power Company, and EDF, we have successfully delivered and installed the full package of hydromechanical equipment, which includes:
- seven steel penstocks (diameter 5.6 m)
- pillway radial gates and stoplogs (17 m x 10.7 m dimension)
- gates and stoplogs for the power intake
- draft tube stoplogs
Key project figures
- installed capacity: 420 MW
- expected annual generation: 2.9 TWh
- share of national energy demand covered: approximately 30 percent
- penstocks: seven steel pipes, Ø 5.6 m
- partners involved: BESIX, NGE-BTP, SGTM, Nachtigal Hydro Power Company, EDF
A milestone for Cameroon’s sustainability
The Nachtigal plant is not only a large-scale infrastructure project but also a driver of sustainable growth. With nearly 3 TWh of clean energy produced each year, the plant will:
- strengthen Cameroon’s energy self-sufficiency
- promote economic and social development in surrounding regions
- reduce CO₂ emissions through renewable energy
